5 Fun Beauty Trends for the Summer Music Festivals

| August 2, 2012 | 1 Comment

The summer might be winding down, but there are still a few more music festivals before you return to school in a month. Lollapalooza is this weekend in Chicago, and the relatively new Outside Lands hits San Francisco next weekend, the 10-12th. These weekend-long parties are the perfect way to break free of that boring business attire you’ve been wearing for your grueling internship. You already know how to have fun wearing as little clothing as possible to keep cool in the brutal heat, but these music festivals are also a chance to experiment with some crazy makeup. Here are 5 fun beauty trends you must try while rocking out to summer music festival favs like Passion Pit and The Black Keys

TREND 1:  GLITTER

Yes, glitter is messy and you’ll probably end up with some all over your clothes, but who cares? You’re a free spirit this weekend, and when else will it be acceptable to cover your body with metallic sparkles? There’s no better time to slather on glitter than when you’re spending all day in the sun, giving it a chance to shine.

NYX Hot Gold Glitter Powder 5 Fun Beauty Trends for the Summer Music Festivals

This hot gold glitter powder is the perfect color for that sun-kissed skin you’ll have after hours spent outside. If you’re feeling extra wild, try a bold color choice, like the hot pink, purple, or blue. You can use it anywhere – your face, body, or even in your hair. (NYX, $3)

TREND 2: FALSE EYELASHES

Mascara is bound to smear throughout the day, giving you a sweaty, raccoon-eyed look that’s far from cute. Even the best waterproof mascara will struggle to look fresh for 12 hours in that heat, so forgo it all together and opt for false eyelashes. Have fun with your falsies by trying a colored pair, or some unique embellishments, instead of the plain black lashes you wear for a night out.

If you’re afraid or throwing on some bright blue lashes, like me, try these dramatic faux lashes with crystal embellishment. (Napoleon Perdis, $15)

TREND 3: BODY PAINTING

Face painting was all the rage at Coachella. While we love getting a taste of those preschool finger painting days, face paint can often look like a little kid’s mess once you start sweating. Body painting is still a great way to take advantage of all that skin you’re showing, so try using henna to give yourself a new temporary tattoo.  If you still want to embrace the tribal trend by decorating your face, use a liquid eyeliner to sketch precise designs that won’t smear.

ASOS Skinny Liquid Eyeliner 5 Fun Beauty Trends for the Summer Music Festivals

Add some tribal designs to your face with this black liquid eyeliner. Feeling adventurous? Try the turquoise, to really take your summer fun to the next level. (ASOS, $16.50)

TREND 4: TINTED LIP BALMS

Bold lips are a great way to let loose with your makeup, but lipstick is too thick and lipgloss, too sticky, for the long days at music festivals. Tinted balms will keep your lips hydrated for all the singing along (or screaming along) you’ll be doing over the weekend. Plus, the colors they come in are just as bright as any lipstick, but are easier to reapply throughout the day.

Clinique Chubby Sitck Lip Balm 5 Fun Beauty Trends for the Summer Music Festivals

Try this Oversized Orange shade, which is a sheer peach color – perfect since coral is a hot lip color trend for summer. (Clinique, $16)

Burts Bees Tinted Lip Balm 5 Fun Beauty Trends for the Summer Music Festivals

Burt’s Bees is a hipster’s favorite. Try the Pink Blossom shade for a girly, sweet kiss. (Burt’s Bees, $7)

TREND 5: NEON NAILS

Nail polish is the easiest way to have some fun, since you don’t have to worry about smudging or taking time to reapply it each morning. If you’re not rocking the neon summer trend with your clothes, work it in a smaller dose on your nails.

BONUS: BEAT THE HEAT

You want to look hot, but not like a hot mess in the glaring sun and packed concerts. Here are the essentials to making it through the long weekend and all that camping, while still looking fresh and wasting little of your precious time.

Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Body Mist Sunblock 5 Fun Beauty Trends for the Summer Music Festivals

SUNSCREEN: You must protect your skin! Try a spray, like this Neutrogena mist, which is oil-free so you can barely feel it. Better yet, it’s available in SPF 30, 45, 75, and 100+ to fit everyone’s skin needs. (Neutrogena, $9.50)

Aveeno Pure Renewal Dry Shampoo 5 Fun Beauty Trends for the Summer Music Festivals

DRY SHAMPOO: When camping out, you probably won’t have access to a shower (most unfortunately). So keep your hair clean and full of volume with dry shampoos, like Aveeno’s Pure Renewal. (Ulta, $8)
