5 Beauty Tips for Surviving Hot Weather

| July 18, 2012 | 1 Comment

With the minimal workload and blissful nostalgia of reuniting with friends, the first few weeks of school are an exciting occasion. In the August heat, however, this time can also feel like a nightmarish plunge into Dante’s Inferno, and unfortunately for students in the northern regions of the United States, many dorms are not air-conditioned. But just because it’s hot doesn’t mean you have to look like a hot mess. Here are five easy beauty tips for surviving the scorching hot weather.

1. Skin

Heat causes sweating; sweating causes shiny face syndrome (self-explanatory). To combat this problem, oil-blotting sheets are a must. They soak up the excess oils from your face without smearing your makeup and are convenient to carry around. Oil-blotting sheets of various brands are available at drugstores.  Sephora even has its own line of scented papers.

2. Makeup

Start with a primer, which will help prevent your makeup from melting. Then, instead of a heavy foundation, use sheer tinted moisturizer with SPF. For eye makeup, stick to liners and mascaras with waterproof formulas

3. Deodorant

Secret Clinical Strength is an excellent product that reduces sweat and body odor for hours. Apply before you go to bed to decrease sweating during the night. It also comes in various scents like orchid and lavender.

4. Lips

Skip the gloss. In the hot weather, it will become very sticky and also might melt in your bag. Instead, use balm to moisturize your lips. Go for a product with SPF to prevent sun damage and peeling. Classic Chapstick is reliable and affordable.

5. Hair

It’s often impossible to tame your mane in the heat and humidity, and when you’re sweating in the summer sun, you want to get your hair off your neck and shoulders. Hide the frizz and cool yourself down by sweeping your hair into a high bun. It’s easy and incidentally very trendy this year. Wear it loose and messy or pull it back tightly and pair with some fun earrings.
