Booze You Can’t Afford: The World’s Most Expensive Alcohol
Hello, and welcome to the most disgusting display of wealth that will ever exist! Unlike other exorbitantly expensive products you can buy, like the Bugatti Veyron Supersport ($2.5M) or a 201 carat Chopard watch (25M), this stuff won’t even last! You’ll drink it and then piss it out, just like the tap water you had at lunch.
Without further ado, here are the most expensive liquors in the world.
Most Expensive Whiskey: The Macallan 1926 ($75,000)
In 2005, a bottle from the esteemed Macallan “Fine and Rare” collection sold to a South Korean businessman for $75,000. That’s $4,111 every time that man sits down to have a glass of his “Fine and Rare” whiskey – money well spent.
This is an interesting purchase because it potentially makes this bottle, and not the ones below it, the most expensive alcohol on earth. As you’ll see below, the value of those drinks is derived from the diamonds and gold that encrust their bottles, not the actual liquor yourself. He paid for the whiskey, and nothing else. Cheers to that, high roller
Most Expensive Tequila: Ley .925 Super Premium Tequila ($255,000)
Far and away the most expensive tequila in the world, Ley .925 is a Mexican tequila company that specializes in incredibly tasty tequila…housed in outlandishly expensive bottles. Their 100% blue agave tequila is aged for 6 years and then bottled in a casing of platinum and white gold.
From their website:
Each one of the limited-edition containers, which resemble a barbed sea shell and are engraved by Alejandro Gomez Oropeza, a Mexican artist, are filled with Pasion Azteca tequila, made from pure sap of the blue agave plant that has been fermented, distilled, and aged for six years.
Most Expensive Vodka: Diva Vodka ($1,000,000)
Diva Vodka is a gem-filtered, luxury vodka produced by Blackwood Distillers out of Scotland. It’s first ice-filtered, then filtered though Nordic Birch charcoal, and then lastly, through a fine sand of crushed diamonds and gems. I’m no scientist, mixologist or any other “ist” for that matter, but I can assure you that this will not make my vodka any smoother.
Lucky, that’s not the only added value Diva Vodka purports to have. They actually put the diamonds and precious stones IN your vodka bottle. 48 of them to be exact, including from cubic zircona, Scottish smoky topaz, pink tourmaline, sky blue topaz, London blue topaz, amethyst, citrine, and of course, diamonds! Talk about conspicuous consumption.
If this all sounds too expensive for you, Diva Vodka also produces a line for plebeians and derelicts that forgoes the use of diamonds and precious stones, and it will only run you $70. Whatever. Sounds like swill.
So, to recap: This is diamond-distilled vodka with diamonds in it. It’s probably very smooth and delicious. Definitely not work a mil.
Most Expensive Cognac, and Alcohol: Henri IV Cognac Grande Champagne ($2,000,000)
Some people will tell you that when it comes to drinking, Cognac is the ultimate luxury. Those people might be right; especially with the release of Henri IV Congnac Grande Champagne, a bottle of Cognac that is worth more than some people will make in their entire lives. Aged for more than 100 years, the liquor is housed in a bottle dipped in 24K yellow gold and sterling platinum. Oh, and 6,500 diamonds. If you recognize this bottle, good job. It’s made by Ley .925, the makers of the most expensive tequila in the world. Good to see they’re diversifying and branching out into the Cognac game.
Right now their tequila holds the Guinness World Record for the most expensive alcohol ever sold. If they can manage to flip a bottle of this Cognac though, they’ll make a new record while still retaining the throne .
From the press release:
In an exquisite bottle, Ley .925 presents the finest and most expensive Cognac in the world – Henri IV Dudognon Heritage – an exclusive elixir, produced since 1776, aged in barrels for more than 100 years.
The one and only Cognac bottle in the world valued at 1 Million Pounds Sterling has been called the “The DNA of Cognac, the essence of the water of life…”.
Now that’s a bold statement. Somebody will have to try it and get back to us on that.
