Party Rules – The Rule of Variety
Variety is the spice of life. Thus is the reason people love wine, cars, art, and other collectibles. Thus is the inexplicable success of Pokemon and Magic cards. Thus is the reason fashion is a billion dollar industry. Variety makes life worth living.
If you want people to be happy at your next party give them VARIETY.
Unfortunately, many hosts don’t understand the gravity of the last sentence. This explains why so many college house parties only have one type of drink… beer.
Here are some examples of how you can add variety to your party
BEVERAGES
Have a variety of drinks ready at your next party. Providing your guests with a flotilla of drink options to make them happy. If they don’t like beer, give them liquor… If they hate liquor give them jello shots… If they despise jello toss some test tube shots their way… If they don’t like any of those things they are absolutely no fun, and you should kick them out of the house. Our article “The Importance of a Well Stocked Party Fridge” will give you a good idea of what constitutes a well stocked party.
MUSIC
Wouldn’t it be boring if you had to listen to the same type of music over and over again. Gangster rap would lose its flavor really quick I imagine. Mixing up a playlist adds variety and modulates the energy in a room.
DRESS
Unless you are having a paint your date party or a black and white party, you should never make everyone wear the same thing. Let people wear what they want! I would even encourage them to mix up the dress!
LIGHTING
You should have a variety of lighting at your party. Dim lighting, colored lighting, fast lighting, and slow lighting are all welcomed. If you would like to read more about how you can light your next party check out our guide to party lighting.
ATMOSPHERE
You should try and add variety to the entire atmosphere of your party. For a great explanation of how you can enhance the atmosphere of your party check out the Party Lab’s ”Importance of Party Atmosphere” article.
