2011 has come and gone, and we now have a whole new year to look forward to. This is a list of the Party Lab’s favorite themes of 2011 that we think are going to be big in 2012. Take a look and see if there are any you like! Make sure to suggest any party themes you would like to have the Party Lab to cover in the future.
The goal of the 2012 End of the World party is to get people to do things that they normally wouldn’t under the pretense that the world is DEFINITELY ending.
College is a world often characterized by promiscuity, hence all the party themes involving “hoes” aka promiscuously dressed women, but at times it is best to bail on sexy and strive for wacky and whimsical. In comes the comically large shirt party.
The Shotluck Party is a wonderful eclectic mess of color, alcohol, and splendor. That is it in a nutshell. The idea is that, like a potluck, everyone conceptualize or find one type of mixed shot or drink, and brings the ingredients necessary to make it. This party is an amazing source of DELICIOUS drinks, drunken debauchery, and excellent reason to break the ice and talk to ANYONE.
The famous couples party is all about breaking the ice. As a host, you want people to break out of their click and to talk to new people, but often times this is a burdensome task. The Famous Couples tries to achieve this with a simple psychological experiment.
Think of the primal capacity of barbarians in all of their raw sexual power, and the converse appeal of the chaste librarian, who has a large IQ, but, secretly, an even larger sexual appetite. Yeah, its kind of like that.
The Rubiks Cube Party is based on that annoying toy / puzzle from your childhood that you could never solve. To throw a Rubiks Cube Party you need to inform your guests that they are to come dressed only in the colors present on the faces of the Rubiks Cube.
People LOVE to drunkenly rearrange refrigerator magnets. This is a FACT of life. It’s like people compete to see who can come up with the most perverted, stupid, or profoundly insightful sentence via refrigerator magnets by the end of the party.
Harry Potter finally ended in 2011 and is maybe one of the greatest told stories of Generation Y. HOWEVER, now it is 2012, and what has yet to be touched upon is that Harry Potter is rife with potential for one MAGICAL (yeah I went there) College House Party.
A tiny or shiny party, like the ABC party, is all about ridiculousness. The entire point is for every guest to compete as to who looks the most outrageous, and let me tell you……sometimes people just get out of control. Nevertheless, to walk into a party full of people who are wearing clothes that are either blindingly shiny or borderline inappropriately tight (in some cases not just borderline), really gets your party juices energized and ready to rage.
Remember when you were a little kid. Whenever you saw glitter you almost shit your pants with excitement. It didn’t matter if you were a guy or a girl. When there was glitter you were going after it like a squirrel chasing a piece of tin foil. The glitter party is all about bringing back the unbridled joy you got from those stupid multitudinous little flecks of metal and plastic.
