Flaming Dr. Pepper 300x240

FLAMING DR. PEPPER

The Flaming Dr. Pepper is a “Bomb Shot” that has its origins in the deep south. The first mention I remember of the Flaming Dr. Pepper was in Tucker Max’s novel “I Hope They Serve Beer In Hell” in his story of the “Austin Road Trip”. He wasn’t joking when is said it tastes exactly like Dr Pepper.  Its ingredients include:

  • 1 pint (~13 parts) beer of your choosing (We like Guinness)

  • 3 parts Amaretto

  • 1 part high-proof liquor (Bacardi 151)

HOW TO PREPARE A FLAMING DR. PEPPER

What one must do to prepare a Flaming Dr. Pepper is…

  1. Pour the beer into a pint glass

  2. Layer the amaretto and Bacardi 151 in a shot glass with the 151 on top

  3. Light the shot glass with the 151 on top, and let it burn for as long as desired (Be careful, and do not, DO NOT, take the shot)

  4. Bomb the shot into the beer and start to chug

QUESTIONS?

What is the best beer for a Flaming Dr. Pepper?

This is largely a matter of personal taste. We have always seen it done with Guinness or Corona, which are obviously VERY different. You can try the flaming Dr. Pepper with any beer you like. For the most part, the amaretto is what makes it taste like Dr. Pepper.

Has anyone ever taken the shot directly?

Yes, and they went to the hospital for being a moron. Don’t take the shot… It is on fire, which most intelligent students in college know tends to burn human flesh. You will not be a happy camper the day after you taking a Flaming Dr Pepper shot start. If you’re gonna do it anyways prepare for a feeding tube.
