The Famous Couples Party

THEME DESCRIPTION

The famous couples party theme is all about breaking the ice.  As a host,  you want people to break out of their clique and to talk to new people, but often times this is a burdensome task.  The Famous Couples tries to achieve this with a simple psychological experiment.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

To implement a famous couples party, simply write a famous person’s name on one tag, and their significant other on another tag.

Materials:

• Hello My Name Is  nametags
• A list of famous couples
• Patience

You can get creative with your couples, adding cartoon characters such as Simba and Nala, or foods like Peanut Butter and Jelly. Pass these tags out at the door and make sure people wear them.  Eventually, they will catch on and begin to seek out their significant other.  Then, the ice-breaking and good times will be had by all.

KEYS TO SUCCESS

This theme only works when you DO NOT TELL your guests what the name tags are for. If you do tell them they feel under the pretense that they have to talk to their counterpart.  This hinders the ultimate goal of breaking the ice harmlessly. Famous  couples work best when they are:

Vaguely Sexual

Who doesn’t like making sexual innuendos, especially when they are drunk? When the couples names are vaguely sexual it makes things a whole lot more fun. Example: “Hey puss, where’s boots?”

• Lady – Tramp
• Dick – Jane
• Beauty – Beast
• Puss – Boots

Can work interchangeably (A little confusion is good)

When there are some duplicates it mixes the game up a lot. You may think that you found your match, but next thing you know you realize you need to find someone completely different.

• Flies – Shit
• Jack – Shit
• Jack – Coke
• Coke – Lindsay Lohan
• Lindsay Lohan – Rehab
• Rehab – Paris Hilton
• Paris Hilton – Film
• Film – Steven Spielberg

Create Triangles

It’s really funny when you have some couples that have notoriously had paramours. These matches can add a lot of humour when all three encounter each other throughout the night.

• Bill Clinton – Hillary Clinton – Monica Lewinsky
• Snap – Crackle – Pop

DRINKS

Try drink pairs that are classically coupled:

• Vodka and Orange Juice
• Vodka and Cranberry
• Gin and Tonic
• Rum and Coke
• Jack and Coke
