Evolution of Music, The Impact of “Digital” on the Music Industry [Infographic]
This is a fantastic infographic documenting the impact digital music has had on the music industry. It’s interesting to look at how the music industry has evolved since the vinyl record and cassette days, and it is somewhat scary to look into the future.
With declining sales in the overall music industry, likely due to illegal music downloading and peer-to-peer file sharing, it is worrisome to think that the music industry might not be able to sustain itself. Looking at the product life-cycle curves of the LP, cassette, and CD at the top right of the infographic it would seem that the music industry experienced its golden years in the 1990′s and it’s only down hill from here.
The question is whether “cloud music” can ride in and save the day making it convenient, cheap, and easy for people to PAY for music instead of finding it elsewhere…
