I'm a college twentysomething that loves crocheting, baking, and sitting curled up with a book. I am positive I am twenty one and not an old lady, although there is a lot of evidence that points to the contrary. I navigate life's ups and downs with a bottle of chianti, a healthy dose of snark, and lots of chocolate.

This past weekend I was absolutely fed up with my fraternity kitchen. If you’ve never seen a kitchen in a fraternity house, it goes a little something like this: dirty outdated appliances, fridges that emit some kind of odd liquid from the bottom, and not a lot of workspace. Mind you, our kitchen is cleaner [...]

Peach Schnapps Scones

Last week, the weather was totally gross and rainy, and since there was already snow on the ground, everything just turned slushy, brown, and sad. I had the afternoon off from class and work and my friend Hannah, photographer extrordinaire, turns to me amidst the homework we should have been doing and asks if I want to bake. Um, [...]

Brie and Apple Grilled Cheese

Brie and Apple Grilled Cheese

College Students Beware: brie is not the cheapest cheese out there, but if you are in the mood to indulge a little bit, give it a shot. I promise you, it is absolutely worth it.

Now, many people would look at this image and say, “Why Mel! What could that possible be? If I didn’t know any better I would say it is a cake that you made in a mug!” Well, my friends, it is indeed, a cake that I made in a mug. It’s cake in a mug. It is…a Mug Cake.

Quick and Simple Curry Sauce

Quick and Simple Curry Sauce

Curry is without a doubt one of my go-to flavors when I’m on my own for dinner. I tend to cheat, and use one of those curry sauces in the jar from the international aisle of the grocery store, but tonight I decided to try to whip up my own curry sauce, with a certain degree of success! For the base, I took a single serving container of vanilla yogurt and flavored it up with…

Bacon Chocolate

Bacon Chocolate

Growing up in a very food oriented household, one of my favorite smells to wake up to has always been, you guessed it, bacon, just out of the pan and the grease still hot and sizzling. The crispier and fattier, the better! Sleeping in (something I do fairly often) only to find that my older brother and father had devoured all the bacon was a perpetually devastating feeling.
