Bacon Chocolate
Growing up in a very food oriented household, one of my favorite smells to wake up to has always been, you guessed it, bacon, just out of the pan and the grease still hot and sizzling. The crispier and fattier, the better! Sleeping in (something I do fairly often) only to find that my older brother and father had devoured all the bacon was a perpetually devastating feeling. My mother and father love bacon sandwiches with peanut butter (I don’t get it, but hey, to each their own) and BLTs and I always order my eggs with bacon and crispy as humanly possible.
So, naturally, the progression from here is to try and make a dessert out of bacon, right? Absolutely! I love bacon. I love chocolate. So today, I combined them.
Hallelujah.
You Will Need:
- 2 cups of chocolate chips (I used semi-sweet, but you can use any kind)
- 1/2 cup rice krispies cereal
- 6 strips of bacon, minced
This recipe is really simple, and will make your kitchen smell like greasy bacon goodness for hours afterward, which is always an added perk!
It’s really easy to chop up bacon when it is frozen, so freeze up your bacon and then mince your strips. Cook the bits in a pan until they are so crispy you feel like you are going to die if you don’t consume the entire pan in that instant. You’ll know you got it just about right (I mean, I can’t be the only one that thinks bacon grease is best served injected directly into one’s arteries, right? ….right?!?).
While this is cooking up, melt your chocolate in a double boiler. Then stir in the bacon and gently fold in the rice cereal because you don’t want it to crumble. Pour the chocolate into some kind of mold (I just used a tupperware container then cut the chocolates into squares later, but you can use an ice cube tray or some kind of silicone mold) and let them set for an hour in the fridge.
OH MY GOD. The results are heavenly and the entire thing can be made in one pot. Simple, easy, scrumptious.
