Rice Cooker: Best Appliance for College Students

| September 25, 2011 | 0 Comments

Rice CookerMy mother bought me a rice cooker my senior year in college. As a guy I thought it was the stupidest gift anyone had ever gotten me. I WAS WRONG. I randomly brought it along with me on a camping trip the next month, and used it to cook rice with some friends. They all LOVED the rice (some of them even bought rice cookers when they got home).

About a week later I had the revelation that,  ”Spaghetti is just like really long grains of rice….. right”. So i tried it. It was the most delicious pasta I had ever eaten. From there I embarked on a journey to cook whatever I could in my rice cooker. You would be surprised how versatile those stupid machines actually are.

With a rice cooker you can make eggs, spaghetti, steamed vegetables, bread, chicken (or any meat), cake, oatmeal, taco mix, soup, and almost anything else you can think of. It’s just a matter of figuring out how to cook it correctly. Plus, you rarely ever burn anything in a rice cooker. They are idiot proof.

As a little treat, I tried to find some tutorials for how to cook these items . It really surprises me what people have time to put on Youtube these days. Who’s job is it to record how to cook things in a rice cooker? Anyways, enjoy them.
