Classy vs. Trashy: Where To Draw The Line
As sorority girls, we all know the difference between classy and trashy behavior, having seen examples of each several times over. A sister’s classy behavior, such as being friendly, supporting her sisters and dressing appropriately, presents a good image of herself and her sisterhood. Likewise, a sister’s trashy behavior, such as sleeping around, talking poorly of her sisters, and drinking too much, reflects poorly on herself and her chapter. Understanding where classy behavior ends and trashy behavior begins is key in teaching your sisters how to represent themselves and the sorority in a positive manner. Additionally, teaching your sisters how to be a “class act” will benefit them long after their college days are over. From real-life experience, here are some examples of classy and trashy behavior for your sisters to learn from.

Ask Your Chapter!
Want more examples? Hold a sisterhood event and ask for examples of classy or trashy behavior by sisters in the chapter, other sorority girls, or other girls on campus (try to keep things anonymous as this isn’t meant to be a gossip circle). Continue the conversation by asking for definitions of classy and trashy behavior, and ways to deal with sisters who behave poorly and misrepresent the chapter.
Additionally, remember that everyone’s idea of what’s classy and what’s trashy will differ. This may be due to how their parents raised them or simply their personal ethics and morals. Remembering this, encourage your sisters to express their thoughts, explain why they feel the way they do, and approach the subject with an open mind. Finally, remind your sisters that this exercise is meant to help the chapter, not hurt the sisterhood. The conversation your sisters have may be serious or comical, but it should not be derogatory or attack any member of the sisterhood.
