The Pros And Cons Of Dormcest
Having sex with your roommates is a tempting notion. Dormcest happens at colleges across the nation. While there seem to be many pros, dormcest can ruin the dynamic of any living situation. Partygoers often fail to see past the drunken sex and what the ensuing pitfalls might be.
I had a roommate sleep with another roommate once. It made it awkward for everyone in the house after that. The tension was palpable. The guy came knocking at her door every time he got drunk. The girl ended up moving out because of it.
Needless to say, that’s just one of many problems that can happen with dormcest. It seems fun, but you should weigh both sides because it can turn into a bigger deal than you think.
Pro: You’ve already established a relationship with this person. You have a better chance of getting laid by someone you already know.
Con: The more you know each other, the more emotionally complicated things get after sex. That’s not necessarily an issue all the time, but it is if you sleep 10 feet from the other person.
Pro: It’s easy. You can get as drunk as you want and your bed is right down the hall. Plus, you can shower if you want because it belongs to both of you.
Con: There’s no such thing as a one night stand with dormcest. It’s not like having sex with someone from work or class. At least you can pretend to be busy there. Get ready for some uncomfortable moments in the kitchen making food or on the couch watching TV.
Pro: You never have to do the walk of shame back to your place. Well, unless you have to walk across the living room and put yourself on display for your other roommates.
Con: Hitting on other people at your house parties can be a problem. Drinking brings out violent fits of jealousy that can put a halt to any party. Secretly hitting on someone in your own house is no fun.
However you look at it, the cons outweigh the pros. Dormcest is usually a poor life choice. As if you don’t have enough to worry about during college. There’s no need to unnecessarily add one more thing. It’s lazy and there are plenty of other people you can sleep with in college. Dormcest is a gamble so avoid it as best you can.
