Four U.S. NATO troops are killed and two others are injured during an “insider attack” at a routine checkpoint. No one is sure why the Afghan police officer turned his gun on the troops. [Source]

Federal authorities are investigating major companies like JPMorgan Chase and Bank of America for not monitoring cash transactions in and out of their branches, which may have allowed drug dealers and terrorists to launder money. This is said to be one of the most aggressive crackdowns on money-laundering in decades. [Source]

Monday (September 17th, 2012)

Jeremy Lin is still sleeping on his teammates’ couches. Chandler Parsons (Lin’s new Rockets teammate) tweeted a screenshot of his conversation with Lin asking him if he could crash at Parsons’ place until Lin’s furniture arrived [Source]

September 17th marks the one year anniversary of Occupy Wall Street. [Source]

Fox News gets trolled by a 20-year-old student at Columbia College Chicago. Max Rice, the said student, was on the morning show ‘Fox & Friends’ where he pretended to be a Romney supported that had originally voted for Obama in 2008. [Source]

A secret video of Romney was released on YouTube. The video shows Romney talking to a crowd of wealthy donors about his disdain for Obama supporters. [Source] [Video]

The National Zoo in Washington, D.C. welcomes the birth of a newborn panda, the first one in seven years. The zoo is planning on following Chinese customs and waiting 100 days before naming the cub. [Source]

Tuesday (September 18th, 2012)

Over 7 million dollars in gold coins and bullion were found in the home of a man in Nevada. Though he died with only $200 in his bank account, the amount of money in gold in his home far surpassed that measly amount. [Source]

Jerry Sandusky will officially be sentenced on October 9th after he was convicted earlier in the year for child sex abuse. The former Penn State assistant football coach faces hundreds of years in prison after being convicted of 45 counts of abusing 10 boys over the course of 15 years. Sandusky has been in jail since June but still maintains his innocence. [Source]

Tension rises between Japan and China as the debacle concerning the Diaoyu Islands (also called Senkaku Islands). Japan recently announced that it was planning on purchasing three of the five disputed islands and although this was done to prevent the Tokyo governor from doing it himself, China is taking this as a challenge to its authority over the disputed islands. Thursday (September 20th, 2012)

The viral video “Gangnam Style” is everywhere, including North Korea where it used as propaganda material to make fun of a South Korean presidential candidate. [Source]

The Spanish woman who is now famous for her “restoration” of a painting of Jesus Christ has hired a team of lawyers and now wants some of the profit the church owners have gained from charging visitors who want to see the painting. [Source]

Greece is in hard times economically and in order to cut down, the country has announced that it is going to sell everything it owns that is not deemed necessary. This includes islands, royal palaces, real estate, roads, and many other things that could help alleviate the crisis it is going through. [Source]

Friday (September 21st, 2012)

An Amish man named Samuel Mullet Sr. and fifteen of his followers were convicted in Cleveland of federal conspiracy and hate crime for a series of beard- and hair-cutting attacks in Ohio.

Romney finally releases his 2011 tax returns, showing that he paid a tax rate of about 14%. Here’s a side-by-side comparison of the Obama’s and Romney’s tax returns.
